Welcome to the Private Client Department. Our team is
headed by Stuart Maher, with an experienced team of
solicitors and lawyers working closely together to
provide a service that is individual and specific to
each client.
The information below offers more
details about our team and areas of advice:
WILLS & ESTATE
PLANNING

Making a Will is something that everybody
should do before it is too late. At the Watson
Ramsbottom Partnership, we aim to make this process as
painless and worry free as possible, and at an
affordable price. Our team of specialist lawyers have
many years combined experience in providing the right
advice to ensure that your wishes are carried out on the
event of your death, something which cannot be
guaranteed for those who choose not to make a Will.
Contact Stuart Maher
for an initial no-obligation discussion or any of our
offices to speak to a member
of our team.
TAX PLANNING

For our clients who require more complex
solutions to their estate planning, our team of lawyers
have the necessary knowledge to provide appropriate
advice and solutions in respect of all taxation matters.
This may include lifetime planning as well as estate
planning on the event of death.
Significant tax savings can be made if the appropriate
advice is sought at the right time, and for an initial
discussion please contact
Stuart Maher.
CARE FEE ADVICE

The spiralling cost of residential care
fees are a concern for many people as they approach
later life. The state provides little support, and most
are expected to meet the costs of their care in full,
which can be as high as £600 per week and above in some
situations. Our specialist lawyers are able to assess
and plan for this eventuality, proving no-nonsense
advice specific to your circumstances.
We are also able to assist in cases where fees are being
paid, but where client’s feel that they have been
inappropriately assessed by the local authority,
challenging the decisions made in respect of the
contribution that needs to be made. Our team has been
successful in obtaining repayment of money paid by our
client’s incorrectly and such challenges are on the
increase.

Stuart Maher.
POWERS OF ATTORNEY

Future Planning is key to our advice in
the department, and Lasting Powers of Attorney are
strongly recommended to all our clients. In the event of
the loss of mental capacity, without adequate provision
having been made, the affairs of an individual simply
cannot be administered without a costly application to
the Court of Protection for an Order.
Our lawyers are highly knowledgeable in this problematic
area, and are able to provide cost-effective solutions
where our clients are in need. As the difficulties
encountered by the public increase in circumstances
where they are simply trying to assist a loved one, we
can put the necessary affairs in order to assist in such
circumstances.

ESTATE
ADMINISTRATION & PROBATE

At The Watson Ramsbottom Partnership we
appreciate the difficulties involved in losing a loved
one. Our specialist teams of lawyers are here to assist
in finalising the affairs and winding up the estate when
the time is right.
Although the process can be lengthy, our experienced
team can bring the estate to a conclusion quickly,
dealing with all aspects of the administration including
taxation, payment of outstanding debts, selling
properties, encashing investments and distributing the
estate.

COURT OF
PROTECTION ASSISTANCE

Where adequate provision has not been
made, and a person suffers from the onset of mental
incapacity, an application to the Court of Protection
for an Order authorising a person to deal with the
persons affairs may be necessary. Our expert team can
guide you through this difficult and lengthy process,
and in many cases take on the role of ‘Deputy’ for our
needy client where they are unable to manage their
affairs for themselves.
There may be other reasons for an application to the
Court of Protection, including to sell a property or to
make a Will for a person who lacks the mental capacity
to do so, and our team of lawyers are able to assist you
through these complex and difficult processes to achieve
the objective as soon as possible.
